31 years of the Mr Olympia! Who is the greatest of all time?
One of the biggest arguments in the body building world is who was the greatest Olympic champion of all time. Now on a personal note, I personally think Arnold Schwarzenegger was and is the most iconic Mr. Olympia ever. Not sure anyone could responsibly argue that, but the best ever, I am not sure. This coming from a person that idolized Arnold starting at about 11 years old. I mean I do not think there was a lifter alive that did not want to be or look like him back in the 80’s and 90’s., but does this make him the greatest “Body Builder” ever.
Surely there was other greats beside Arnold Schwarzenegger like Phil Heath, Jay Cutler, Ronnie Coleman, Dorian Yates, Lee Haney, Samir Bannout, Chris Dickerson, Franco Columbu, Larry Scott, Sergio Oliva, & Frank Zane. And what about Steve Reeves, Reg Park, or the man who really started it all, Eugene Sandow . All of these guys could be considered the greatest ever with only Steve Reeves, Reg Park, & Eugene Sandow not actually receiving a trophy due to the fact that the 1st Mr Olympia contest was not until 1965.
Regardless, if you had to decide to give a trophy to the greatest body builder of all time, who would you pick? Would it be one of these greats or someone else? Personally I could not pick. The field is vast with plenty of stiff competition. I mean really, you are splitting hairs. Cut, Symmetry, mass, all play a role into to being great, but so does time due to technology and scientific advancements. No, I am not talking about steroids, rather supplements. So instead of trying to tell you who I think was the greatest ever, lets take a walk throw time and pay tribute to all those who came before us, starting with Eugene Sandow.
All I can say is impressive! Vote for who you would say is the master of all time. For a great read on “The History Behind The Sandow Trophy” go to Body Building.com
